Get Inspired by Abstract Interior Design
What is Abstract Interior Design?
As an art form, abstract art is meant to inspire creativity and tap into human emotion. The methods used to create these bold and distinct pieces allow abundant space for interpretation. Abstract design is the same.
Abstract design is marked by visual uniqueness–variance in shapes, colors, patterns, and materials.
One use of abstract elements in design is colorful, non-pictorial murals like those from Fancy House above. Feature walls are nothing new, but using wall space to showcase a beautiful, unique, abstract art piece brings a room to life in a whole new way.
Badhaus Design
Badhaus is one style that utilizes abstract design. Function is at its core and it uses simple geometric shapes like squares and triangles to achieve this. Primary colors–yellow, red, and blue–are used most often in Badhaus to keep the design simple and bold.
Other colors, like greens and natural tones, have also become popular while maintaining the shapes and angles that make up Badhaus design.
Abstract Designer Highlight
San Francisco-based design firm, Noz Design, is not afraid of the bold and abstract. Their use of color and patterns spans all rooms in the house and puts joy at the forefront.
They have been recognized by a variety of publications including Better Homes & Gardens Stylemakers List, Luxe Gold List, 1stDibs 50, and Architectural Digest New American Voices.
Abstract Payal Daga, an India-based firm, has a subtler take on abstract design. They use muted color pallets and put texture and shape at the heart of their designs to create elegant and unique spaces.
Daga takes a fresh approach to the “feature wall” and often opts for unusual materials that make every room one-of-a-kind. Furniture, woodwork, and accessories are all on the abstract-table!
Get Creative with Color & Shapes
There are a variety of ways to utilize abstract elements. Mirrors, sofas, and light fixtures are just a few options to give your space a creative flair. Design choices like this help to add interest, create energy and life in a space, and offer a brilliant focal point. Depending on the materials you choose to use, they can also add texture.
Abstract Rugs
Then, of course, there’s the rug. Here, abstraction can take several forms.
Design with simple, two-toned colors is one like rugs 525, 668, and 672. Pattern, as seen in rugs 319 and 493 is another option. Then, there’s color like the Moroccan rug 653.
Whether you’re pushing your space to the widest range of abstraction or trying to bring a taste of unique style to your home, there’s a rug for that!
